	BRANCH DIARY (updated 14/02/12) Forthcoming Branch Events Wed Feb 15th 2012 Branch Meeting & Social at the Robin Hood, Aughton. 8pm start. Buses from platform A6 in Rotherham Interchange. Preceeded at 7pm by a Rotherham CAMRA Beer Festival meeting. Please try to attend this if you are interested in having an input to our festival in September. Service bus details: From Stand B6 in Rotherham Bus Station: (please note there is no bus that will get you to the Robin Hood for 7pm, unless you arrive very early on the 27.) First SY No. 27 service - departs at 6.00pm TM Travel No.49 service - departs at 7.00pm. TM Travel No.25 service - departs at 7.30pm. TM Travel No.49 service - departs at 8.00pm. Buses stop close to the pub. If travelling by bus or train from outside Rotherham, you will need a South Yorkshire Day Tripper ticket. Return Buses from opposite the pub to Rotherham: TM Travel No.25 service - at 10pm & 11pm. TM Travel No.49 service - at 10.40pm & 11.40pm. Tue 28th Feb - Beer Tasting at the Rotherham Real Ale & Music Festival at Magna "Baas of Steel", Magna Science Adventure Centre, off Sheffield Rd., Templeborough, Rotherham. 3 - 6pm. Wed Feb 29th - Sat Mar 3rd Rotherham Real Ale & Music Festival at Magna "Baas of Steel", Magna Science Adventure Centre, off Sheffield Rd., Templeborough, Rotherham. Volunteers are required for setting up the festival from Sun 26th Feb for setting up the festival, to serve on the bars, help out on the entrance and the CAMRA stands during the festival, and to help with dismantling the festival on Sun March 4th. Volunteers also required for the Beer Tasting on Tues 28th Feb - tel: Steve Burns on 07973 831554 to volunteer, or fill in online staffing form. Help is also required to man the CAMRA membership, sales and tombola stands. Wed Mar Mar 21st 2012 Branch Meeting & Social, venue TBC. 8pm start. Trips also planned in March to Real Ale & Real Fires pubs and to Kirkstall Brewery, Leeds and possibly Welbeck Abbey Brewery. Details tbc. Watch this space. 	Real cider in the Rotherham area Several pubs in the Rotherham Borough serve real cider or perry inc The Bridge Inn, 1, Greasbrough Rd., Rotherham town cenre (between bus & rail stations), all 4 Wetherspoons pubs: the Bluecoat (The Crofts), Corn Law Rhymer (High St.) & Rhinoceros (Bridgegate) in Rotherham town centre + the Church House in Wath. All these usually serve more than one real cider or perry. The Hatfeild Arms at Laughton-en-le-Morthen sells Westons Old Rosie in bottles. The Addlestones Cider sold at the George & Dragon in Wentworth, though served through a handpump, is not recognised by CAMRA as being real due to the use of apple concentrate as an ingredient. Anyone found anymore pubs in the area selling real cider or perry. If so, let us know.
	Music & Real Ale in the Rotherham area Jazz & Swing Band lovers are catered for at two local real ale outlets: The Colin Yates Big Band appear at the Phoenix Sports & Social Club, Pavilion La., Brinsworth, S60 5PA on the 2nd Wed of each month, starting at 8pm - admission £5. The club also features other live entertainment from time to time. Contact club for details. The Dearne Big Band appear at the Carlton Park Hotel, Moorgate Rd., Rotherham on Sun eve of each month 8pm - 10.30pm. £5 on door. Remeber, there's a 50p discount on a pint of real ale for card carrying CAMRA members (£2.05). If you favour rock & pop music with your real ale, the Bridge Inn, Greasbrough Rd., Rotherham town centre has a live band on Saturday evenings, admission free. There is also a jam session on Thursday evenings and monthly folk upstairs on the last Mon of month - A poetry reading group with occassional music meets on some Friday evenings with a singarounds on the 2nd & 3rd Fridays of the month. Check at pub for dates & who's on. The Vasco Lounge Bar in Wickersley has open mic nights every Thurs evening, live bands most Fri evenings & sometimes on Sat & Sun evenings. Check Vasco for details. The Three Horseshoes in Wickersley has live vocalists every Fri evening. Dave Brennan's Jazz Band play at the Three Horseshoes, Bawtry Rd., Wickersley. Check at pub for details. Solo male & female vocalists regularly appear on Thursday evenings at the Master Brewer in Bramley. There are weekly singers' nights at the Cavalier in Ravenfield with Mick Conlin. Open mic nights take place every Thurs at the Woodlands Social Club, Doncaster Rd., Rotherham. Monthly folk nights are also held at the Beehive in Union St., Harthill (last Fri of month) and the Loyal Trooper, Sheffield Rd., South Anston. There's also a Folk night at the Rock at Maltby, Wesley Centre, Blyth Rd., Maltby every Fri evening. There is a handpump, but real ale is not always available. However, bottled Wentworth and other smaller brewery beers usually are. Local band nights are also held here, usually on Satuday with other entertainment on certain nights. Check website for details. If choral music is more your scene , try the Bay Horse in Scholes Village. Again, check at pub for dates. Country & Western and other live acts appear most weeks at the Stockyard Truckstop & Pub on Hellaby La., Hellaby Industrial Estate (off M18). Check at venue for details. Anyone know of others that regularly combine live entertainment & real ale? Please let the branch know if you do.
